Meet Annie
Overcoming Language Barriers
A visiting international student from China, Annie was excited to come to MIT and learn more about astrophysics and cosmology from world renowned experts. The language barrier proved more difficult than she expected. Annie summoned the courage to email her professor after a poor quiz grade who provided encouragement and suggestions for how to increase language comprehension in his class.
What the professor said in the email still have a positive effect on me, even now, because every time I face some challenges in my study I think...I can already speak two languages!”
